TROY, Mich. – Bahama Breeze, a Caribbean-inspired chain, has closed 15 restaurants, including one in Michigan.
The restaurant at 539 E. Big Beaver Road in Troy was permanently closed on Thursday, May 15, 2025, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN).
There were 70 people employed at the Troy location. The company said they were offered the option to transfer to other locations. All of the employees are getting up to 60 days of wage and benefit payments they are entitled to under WARN, according to the notice.
Bahama Breeze is owned by Darden Restaurants. Other chains owned by this company include Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and The Capital Grille.
Darden also shut down 14 other Bahama Breeze locations. The closures include five locations in Florida, four in New Jersey, and one in Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York and Tennessee.
“After thorough analysis and careful consideration, we made the decision to close 15 Bahama Breeze locations,” a spokesperson from Darden said. “Closing a restaurant is a difficult choice because it impacts our team members and guests. However, we believe this is the right decision because it will allow Bahama Breeze to focus on its highest performing restaurants and strengthen the brand’s overall performance.”
Following the Troy closure, the only Bahama Breeze restaurant left in Michigan is the one at 19600 Haggerty Road in Livonia, according to the Bahama Breeze website.
