Tire blowout leads to deadly US-23 crash in Washtenaw County

WHITMORE LAKE, Mich. – A dump truck crash on US-23 killed a 47-year-old man from Flint.

It happened Monday, June 16, just before 7 p.m.

According to authorities, the driver of a southbound dump truck lost control of the vehicle when it blew a tire. The truck veered off the road and crashed into a tree near Whitmore Lake.

When Michigan State Police troopers arrived, they found fire crews from Ann Arbor and Northfield Township working to extricate the driver, who was pinned in the vehicle.

The driver died at the scene.

The southbound lanes of US-23 were closed at North Territorial Road for roughly three hours after the crash.
