Man dies after shooting himself while driving, hitting pedestrian before crashing on Detroit’s west side

DETROIT – A man died on Monday after shooting himself while driving on Detroit’s west side before crashing, according to police.

It happened at about 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, near the intersection of Joy Road and Roselawn Street.

Police believe the driver mistakenly shot himself, lost control of the vehicle, and ran over a pedestrian before crashing.

The driver died at the scene, and the pedestrian has been hospitalized in serious condition.
