Detroit man sentenced for officer’s death in plea deal

DETROIT – A 34-year-old man from Detroit will spend decades in jail for killing a retired police officer.

According to authorities, Erik Delano Davis shot and killed retired Detroit police officer Stefon Hodo during an argument in 2022. He reportedly moved his body to another location before breaking into Hodo’s home and stealing his car and gun.

Davis is accused of using the stolen gun and car in shootings two days later.

Police filed a missing person report on Hodo, whose body was found two weeks later.

In 2024, Davis was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree home invasion, discharge of a firearm in or at a building, discharge of a firearm in or at a building causing serious impairment, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearm.

On Monday, Jan. 5, Davis was sentenced to 26 to 40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections after a plea agreement lowered the murder charge to second-degree.
