Man sentenced in murder of well-known Dearborn florist

DEARBORN, Mich – A man connected to the death of a Dearborn florist will spend years in jail for his role.

In September 2023, Hassan Salame was killed after having dinner with his family. They said he was ambushed, shot and had his watch, keys and necklace taken just steps outside the front door of the restaurant.

He was rushed to Corewell Hospital, where he died.

Dawanne Jerome Midgett was arrested by Dearborn police and charged with felony murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and four counts of felony firearm. A jury convicted him on all counts in November.

On Jan. 30, 2026, Midgett was sentenced to two to 40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections, with 315 days served.
