U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell is demanding answers from the United States Postal Service after mail delays hit Southeast Michigan, leaving some residents waiting on medications, bills, and legal documents.

The Michigan Democrat sent a letter to Postmaster General David Steiner asking him to explain what is causing the disruptions and what steps the USPS has taken to fix them. Dingell represents Michigan’s 6th Congressional District.

In the letter, Dingell said the timing of the delays is particularly concerning with tax season underway and elections on the horizon — including for voters who plan to cast ballots by mail.

“These deliveries are not only essential for security, but they are also vital for the well-being, health, and livelihood of those who depend on USPS services,” Dingell said. “With tax season underway and elections approaching, timely and accurate mail delivery is more important than ever. My constituents deserve confidence that USPS services are reliable and operating on schedule.”

Dingell’s letter closes with a series of questions for the Trump administration, including:

  • What actions has USPS already taken to address the disruptions?
  • What factors are contributing to the delays?
  • What does USPS need from Congress to achieve long-term financial and operational stability?

“USPS’s role of providing for the American people is more important than ever,” said Dingell. “It is essential that USPS operates transparently, meets delivery standards, and remains accessible to all communities.”
