Usher launches paid entertainment internship program ahead of Detroit tour stops

Participants will receive training in production, wardrobe, multimedia, operations, and community impact

DETROIT – As he prepares for multiple shows in Detroit this summer, Usher is launching a new paid internship program to help young people break into the entertainment industry.

The program is tied to his upcoming R&B tour with Chris Brown, which includes three nights at Ford Field on July 2, July 3, and July 5.

The initiative, called the Entertainment Industry Club: Live Touring Edition, will select 10 interns from Detroit and Atlanta for an 11-week hands-on experience.

Participants will receive training in production, wardrobe, multimedia, operations, and community impact as they follow the tour.

The program is a partnership between Usher’s New Look organization and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit.

“The live touring industry is a multi-billion dollar global business, yet access to the entertainment trades remains limited,” said Shawn H. Wilson, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit. “Together, we’re changing that by placing young professionals on one of the most historic tours and turning access into real pathways to lasting careers.”

Applications are open now through Friday, and applicants must be at least 18 years old.

In a statement, Usher said the program is designed to give young professionals real-world experience and opportunities to grow in the entertainment field.

The launch builds on Usher’s continued investment in Detroit.

Earlier this year, he attended the opening of a new youth-focused entertainment production facility at the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan inside Michigan Central, a project he supports alongside Detroit Pistons Creative Director of Global Experience/rapper Big Sean.
