Showers and a few storms return to Metro Detroit tonight

Terrific Tuesday weather to get outside before rain arrives overnight.

Dry and seasonable weather will dominate much of the day today across Southeast Michigan, with temperatures remaining near average for mid-August. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms develops late this afternoon, mainly across the Thumb. Rain chances increase tonight as a line of showers moves into Southeast Michigan. A few isolated thunderstorms will be possible, but widespread severe weather is not expected locally.

The line of showers is expected to be somewhat more organized as it develops and moves across the western side of the state later today. That has prompted a Marginal Risk for severe weather farther west in Michigan. However, the line should weaken as it tracks eastward across Lower Michigan, significantly reducing the threat by the time it reaches Southeast Michigan. Periods of rain will continue into tonight, with a few lingering showers possible early Wednesday. Rain should taper off during the morning, followed by drier conditions for the remainder of Wednesday.

The cooler pattern continues for the end of the week, with temperatures running at or just slightly below average. Highs will generally be near 80, offering a comfortable finish to the week.
