1 killed in Detroit barbershop shooting; shooter on the run, police say

Witnesses say someone pulled up, shot man multiple times

DETROIT – One person was killed Wednesday in a shooting outside a Detroit barbershop, and the shooter is on the run.

The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2026, outside the 313 Community Barbershop in the 10300 block of West McNichols.

Detroit police confirmed to Local 4 that a man was killed. They said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unknown.

Witnesses told Local 4 that someone pulled up and shot the man multiple times.

While police were at the scene, the investigation appeared to center around a white car parked on the side of the barbershop.

A community activist expressed frustration about this kind of violence in the middle of his neighborhood.

“You’ve got the mayor trying to build up the blocks, then this is our thanks,” he said. “There’s something wrong with that. Something’s really wrong with that. So we’ve just got to put our boots on the ground and get out here and stay out here more often so that this won’t happen.”

There are cameras at some of the businesses in the area, so surveillance footage could be part of the investigation.

Police have not yet released any information about the person they’re looking for.
