OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A Detroit Country Day School senior is facing a felony charge in Indiana after allegedly punching an opposing player in the head following a high school lacrosse game earlier this month.
Luke Fisher, 18, is charged with battery, a Level 6 felony, stemming from an incident that occurred on May 2 at Carmel High School.
Incident caught on video
Video from the Indiana High School Athletic Association shows the end of the game between Detroit Country Day and Carmel High School, with both teams heading to opposite sides of the field.
That’s when police allege Fisher punched a 15-year-old Carmel player in the side of the head.
The incident happened so quickly that many in attendance missed it.
Seconds later, the Carmel player fell to the ground, drawing the attention of his teammates and school trainers.
Court documents detail the alleged assault
According to court documents obtained by Local 4, the victim said: “The punch was delivered with so much force that it caused his head to snap back and forth.”
The teen was taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered a concussion.
Fisher was charged one week after the incident.
The Hamilton County prosecutor told Local 4 the charge was elevated to a felony because of the concussion.
School responds
Detroit Country Day School released a statement acknowledging the incident.
“DCDS is aware of an incident after an out-of-state lacrosse game. Guided by our school values, good sportsmanship is essential to DCDS. This incident was addressed directly by the school. We encourage everyone to wait for all the facts to come out before drawing any further conclusions.”
Fisher appears in court
Online court records show Fisher is represented by Indianapolis attorney James Voyles, whose office declined to comment.
A warrant had been issued for Fisher’s arrest, but records show he appeared on Thursday (May 14).
Fisher is a senior at Detroit Country Day and is set to graduate in the coming weeks.
The mother of the Carmel player declined to comment.
