Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s once again, and after Metro Airport reached 90 degrees yesterday, another 90-degree reading Tuesday is certainly possible. The standing record high for this date is 91 degrees, set back in 1934. The combination of heat, humidity and an approaching cold front will create favorable conditions for thunderstorms to rapidly develop during the afternoon hours.
Gusts will reach 30 mph today ahead of the storms.

Some storms could become severe, with the strongest cells capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes. The region remains under a slight risk — level 2 out of 5 — for severe weather.
Timeline
Similar to Monday, the primary window for storm activity is expected between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Cooler, drier air this week
Relief arrives behind the cold front as noticeably cooler and drier air settles in for Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures will fall back into the 60s through the remainder of the work week, bringing a much different feel compared to the recent summer-like heat. Rain chances return late Friday into Friday night, with another opportunity for thunderstorms on Saturday. A few lingering showers may continue into Sunday morning before conditions gradually improve.
Memorial Day outlook
Looking ahead to the Memorial Day holiday, the forecast is trending drier with temperatures rebounding into the upper 70s. That would provide favorable weather for outdoor plans and local Memorial Day parades on Monday.
