WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A man has died in a house fire in Canton Township early Tuesday morning.
The fire happened on May 19 at an attached garage of a home on Lancelot Drive near Palmer and Sheldon roads just before 1 a.m.
When firefighters responded to the scene, they found the attached garage fully engulfed in flames. The homeowner told crews that a 44-year-old man was still inside the home.
According to the Canton Township Fire Department, firefighters searched the home and could not find the man.
After the fire was put out and the home experienced a partial collapse, crews searched for the man a second time, finding him dead in a room above the garage where the partial collapse had happened.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
