DETROIT – A 17-year-old has been charged as an adult in connection with a shooting that wounded a 14-year-old boy in Detroit last weekend.

Wayne County prosecutors said Ramon Javon Perez Smith allegedly opened fire during a fight Sunday (May 17) night on Farmer Street, striking the teen in the chest before fleeing the scene.

The 14-year-old survived the shooting.

Smith faces multiple felony charges, including assault with intent to murder, felony in possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon, according to prosecutors.

Authorities said Smith is expected to appear in court on May 23, 2026.
