A Wayne County jury has found Amir Khalid, 41, of Canton, guilty of multiple charges stemming from an August 2025 crash in Detroit that killed three people — two of them children — and left another child seriously injured.
Sisters Savannah Allen, 8, and Syiana Allen, 15, both died from their injuries sustained in the crash, which prosecutors said was caused by Khalid’s reckless driving at high speeds in the area of Gratiot Avenue and August Street. The victims’ grandmother, who police say was driving the vehicle that was struck by Khalid, was also critically injured during the accident and died weeks later from her injuries, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.

Khalid was found guilty on May 15 of three counts of reckless driving causing death, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years, and one count of drag racing, according to court records. The jury found Khalid not guilty of the second-degree murder charges issued by prosecutors in the case.
The defendant is expected to appear before Third Circuit Court Judge Regina D. Thomas for his sentencing on June 8, 2026.
