Intersection between Maple, Drake roads in Oakland County reopens following hit-and-run crash

Police said they do not yet have a description of the driver or further identifying information about the SUV

A motorcyclist was injured in a hit-and-run crash at a roundabout in West Bloomfield Township, and police are searching for the driver of the vehicle involved.

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A motorcyclist was injured in a hit-and-run crash at a roundabout in West Bloomfield Township, and police are searching for the driver of the vehicle involved.

The crash occurred on Monday (June 1) at 1:30 p.m. at Maple Road and Drake Road, leading to the area being closed for an investigation.

Investigators said a dark-colored SUV struck the motorcyclist while the SUV was traveling westbound through the roundabout at Maple Road and Drake Road.

The SUV reportedly stopped briefly after the collision, then continued westbound and fled the scene.

Police said the motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital by the West Bloomfield Fire Department.

Authorities said the rider is in stable condition.

Officials initially reported the motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Investigators said they do not yet have a description of the driver or further identifying information about the SUV.

Police believe the suspect vehicle may have sustained damage to its front bumper.

The intersection was temporarily closed as emergency crews responded to the scene, but has since reopened.
