Oakland County residents frustrated as missed trash pickups leave neighborhood overflowing with garbage

Neighbors say it’s not just an eyesore

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Childs Lake Estates residents in Milford say they have experienced missed trash pickups since late May, leaving some unable to close their cart lids and others putting extra bags on the curb.

Harvey Raymond said the last time he saw a Priority Waste truck in the neighborhood was May 22. He said he called the company twice on Wednesday (June 3), trying to find out what was happening, but wasn’t able to reach a live person.

He said he is fed up with trash piling up on the curb in his neighborhood.

“I have no more room. I am going to have to start putting it on the ground. I have nowhere else to stick it,” Raymond said.

Neighbors say it’s not just an eyesore.

“I mean, the whole neighborhood is starting to stink,” said resident Deanna Swim. The garbage is attracting unwanted attention.

“We have cats and animals and raccoons getting into all the garbage,” resident Amber Newman said.

Raymond is ready to take matters into his own hands.

“I am actually going to put stuff in my vehicle and take it to Priority Waste and stick it at their front doors. Maybe that will wake them up,” Raymond said.

After Local 4 contacted the company, a crew was in the neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon collecting trash.

Priority Waste told Local 4 that some trucks were down, which affected the route. The company said it is working to add trucks to its fleet to improve service reliability.

Raymond was not convinced. He said, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
