After some sunshine and strong thunderstorms on Tuesday, we have kept a few thunderstorms in the forecast overnight, and our storm chance, along with extreme heat, remains in the forecast.

What is a 4Warn Weather Alert?
We issue a 4Warn Weather Alert when we’re expecting weather conditions that will be inconvenient to our viewers.
Why did we issue an alert for Wednesday?
A Heat Advisory is in effect for areas along and south of I-696 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday due to the extreme heat in the forecast.
High temperatures will warm into the lower 90s, but once you factor in the humidity, heat index values will warm into the upper 90s to around 100° by late Wednesday afternoon and early Wednesday evening.
We will also keep the chance of a few thunderstorms in the forecast as well -- some of those could be strong to severe in the afternoon and early evening hours. Damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall will be the primary threats, as the majority of the region remains under a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather on Wednesday.
Why did we issue an alert for Thursday?
The threat of severe weather is increasing significantly, looking ahead into the day on Thursday.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed part of the region west of Metro Detroit under an Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) for severe weather on Thursday, while the rest of the region remains under a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) on our severe weather scale.
All modes of severe weather will be possible on Thursday, but damaging winds will be the greatest threat, persisting into late Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening.
The heat will be sticking around throughout the day on Thursday as well. High temperatures warm back into the lower 90s by the afternoon, but once you factor in the humidity, expect heat index values to return to the upper 90s to around 100°.
Forecast for the rest of the week
Once the strong front moves through the region late Thursday night, we will dry things out by the end of the week and into the weekend. Cooler changes will work into the region by the end of the week as well. High temperatures will drop into the 80s on Friday and through the weekend, before chances of a few storms return and temperatures cool even more, dropping into the upper 70s by early next week.
