Strong-to-severe thunderstorms are expected across Metro Detroit on Thursday.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed part of the region west of Metro Detroit under an Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) for severe weather on Thursday, June 11, while the rest of the region remains under a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) on our severe weather scale.
Threats
All modes of severe weather -- such as isolated tornadoes, heavy rain and hail -- will be possible on Thursday, but damaging winds will be the greatest threat, persisting into late Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening.
Extreme heat
The heat will be sticking around throughout the day on Thursday as well. High temperatures warm back into the lower 90s by the afternoon, but once you factor in the humidity, expect heat index values to return to the upper 90s to around 100 degrees.
Looking ahead
Once the strong front moves through the region late Thursday night, we will dry things out by the end of the week and into the weekend. Cooler changes will work into the region by the end of the week as well. High temperatures will drop into the 80s on Friday and through the weekend, before chances of a few storms return and temperatures cool even more, dropping into the upper 70s by early next week.
