Lions star WR Jameson Williams hosts 2026 youth football camp at Cass Tech, while inspiring Detroit kids

DETROIT – For the last three years, Jameson Williams has been one of the NFL’s most electrifying players and a major weapon on the Detroit Lions’ high-powered offense.

But on Friday (June 12) at Cass Tech, Williams, better known as Jamo, was having fun with the kids during his 2026 youth football camp.

“Kids coming out and having fun is the main thing to me,” Williams said. “That’s what I’m here for: encouraging the kids.

“You give them the face to see out in the community,” Williams said. “Show them things that they want to do could be possible.”

The camp, for boys and girls ages six to 16, was hosted by FlexWork, which has also hosted sports camps featuring Jamo’s teammate, Amon-Ra St. Brown, former Lions running back David Montgomery, and Tigers outfielder Riley Greene.

While he wasn’t running routes with the kids, Williams, along with a group of coaches from the Detroit Prowl, a women’s professional football team, had the kids running drills, catching passes, working on their tackling, and working on other skills.

“It’s a way to reach out to the community,” said Michael Vitale, the co-owner of the Detroit Prowl. “Little boys get to these camps on a constant basis. Bringing little girls into these camps is huge for our team.”

“Most of these kids get a chance to see Jamo on Sundays, or see him only on film or on TV,” Vitale said. “Today, they get a chance to actually see him doing things and working out.

Williams, a St. Louis native, has embraced Detroit as a second home since the Lions drafted him in 2022.

The kids were especially excited to see him out there, and camps give him a chance to help some youngsters learn the game that has changed his life.

“To me, it means a lot. I love the game,” Williams said. “I play the game for a reason. It just keeps me focused and keeps me going.”
