Family speaks out after Detroit woman killed in suspected wrong-way crash on I-75

Investigators said the crash happened around 4 a.m. between Grand River Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard

DETROIT – The family of a Detroit woman killed in a suspected wrong-way crash on I-75 is speaking publicly as Michigan State Police continue investigating what happened.

Tytiana “Ty” Duskin, 38, died early Tuesday (June 23) morning in a crash on southbound I-75 near downtown Detroit.

Investigators said the crash happened around 4 a.m. between Grand River Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard.

Loved ones said Duskin was on her way to pick up a relative from work.

“It’s been tough,” said Deangelo Thomas. “This is the ultimate worst thing that can happen.”

Friends said the loss has been especially painful because Duskin didn’t typically drive on the freeway.

“It was unbelievable, because I’m like, my best friend don’t normally get on the freeway,” said Duskin’s best friend. “And then for somebody to get on the freeway the wrong way… Now, you took an innocent, he, without his mother. We are without everything. She was everything to all of us.”

Police said the suspected wrong-way driver was taken to the hospital with injuries. The crash shut down the freeway for several hours.

Duskin’s teenage son, Julian Thomas, said he’s struggling to process the loss and wants answers.

“I feel hurt but lost. Found, but scared. It’s like I feel a lot of ways,” Duskin said. “I lost the lady that brought me into this world that I thought I was going to have for the rest of my life.”

Family and friends said they are leaning on faith and on memories of Duskin, describing her as someone who lit up a room and had big dreams for her children.

“When Ty walked in, she lit up a room. She was just so full of life,” Deangelo Thomas said.

“I’m just going to miss everything about her; she was a wonderful lady,” Julian Thomas said.

Michigan State Police have not released the name of the suspected wrong-way driver.

The crash remains under investigation.
