U.S. Coast Guard members saved seven people from a burning boat near Detroit early Thursday morning after receiving a distress call.
Just before 3 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Detroit watchstanders received a request for assistance from Joint Rescue Coordination Center Trenton about a 45-foot foot on the Canadian side of the Detroit River that had caught fire.

The boat was still on fire when the Coast Guard arrived, with all passengers gathered near the aft of the vessel wearing life jackets. Crew members were able to safely transfer them aboard the Coast Guard vessel and transported them to Harbor Town Marina in Detroit without injury.
The vessel eventually sunk to the bottom of the river with a charted depth of 40 feet, a commercial salvaging company later reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
