Gibraltar police arrest barricaded suspect after domestic violence, child abuse investigation

Gibraltar, Mich. – Police are investigating a reported domestic violence and possible child abuse incident after officers responded to a residence in Gibraltar.

The incident occurred on Monday (Aug. 3) when the officers from Gibraltar Police Department said they were dispatched at approximately 1:56 p.m. to the 29900 block of Kingsbridge Drive following reports of a domestic violence situation and possible child abuse.

Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect was intoxicated and had barricaded himself inside the residence, police said.

Officials requested assistance from several neighboring law enforcement agencies, including the Downriver SWAT Team, as officers worked to resolve the situation safely.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody without incident at approximately 4:22 p.m.

Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the residence and collected several items of evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police said the investigation remains active.

Once it is complete, a warrant request will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

No additional details have been released because of the active investigation.
