SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Southfield police released new details Monday on a robbery at Action Impact.
Marquise Massey, 33, was charged with multiple felonies, including felony firearms, carrying a concealed weapon and larceny.
Police were called to the Action Impact store off Eight Mile Road on July 19 for a reported shooting and robbery.
When police arrived, they learned Massey was looking at two guns and allegedly ran out of the store with them.
An Action Impact employee, Thomas Beck, 67, ran after Massey.
Massey was able to drive away from the scene, but was later arrested on July 21. During the arrest, officers recovered one of the two suspected stolen guns from the store. The other gun was not recovered.
Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said it was initially reported to police that Massey turned to fire shots at Beck while running away. However, after further investigation, Beck allegedly fired shots at Massey during the chase.
Police said surveillance showed Beck returning to the store immediately after the chase, switched out the handgun he was holding with a gun off the store shelf before police arrived. He was also seen allegedly hiding the used gun in a drawer.
When Beck was questioned about switching the gun that was allegedly used to shoot at Massey, he requested an attorney.
Beck was charged on Aug. 5 with tampering with evidence and lying to a police officer.
