LIVONIA, Mich. – Livonia police arrested a 32-year-old Detroit man after a weeks-long investigation into a series of vehicle break-ins across the city.
Police identified Richard Johnson as a suspect after Livonia Police Department field evidence technicians processed latent fingerprints collected from several vehicle break-in scenes.
Police said their investigation linked Johnson to multiple vehicle break-ins in Livonia and similar incidents in surrounding communities.
On Friday, Aug. 14, investigators located Johnson while he was allegedly attempting to break into vehicles, police said.
Johnson tried to flee the area in his vehicle, but officers stopped him using a Grappler device designed to entangle a vehicle’s rear tire and bring it to a stop.
Police took Johnson into custody without incident.
He has been charged with one count of felony larceny from a motor vehicle, one count of felony larceny, six counts of misdemeanor larceny and habitual offender status.
Johnson was arraigned Monday, Aug. 17, in the 16th District Court in Livonia before Magistrate Roger Spence.
The court set a $50,000 cash bond.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Aug. 27 at the 16th District Court in Livonia.
