Michigan State perseveres through 36-foul second half in win vs. Northwestern
EVANSTON, Ill. – Watching Michigan State’s win over Northwestern on Sunday afternoon here at Welsh-Ryan Arena, Tom Izzo said he felt the same way that most Spartans fans did. “Not a fun game,” Izzo said afterward. “It seems like there were fouls every minute.”In the second half, the foul rate was far more than one per minute. Officials whistled a foul for every 23.5 seconds of gameplay in the second half (36 in 20 minutes for 51 free throw attempts). More than one out of every three shots taken in the game was a free throw attempt.
mlive.comOffseason evaluation: Marcus Bingham Jr. went from an ‘enigma’ to improving contributor
THE BASICS: Bingham averaged 3.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while playing 11.5 minutes per game. QUOTE OF NOTE: “Marcus has been an enigma to me.” – Tom Izzo, Dec. 31. REASONED PERSPECTIVE: Bingham continues to show flashes of being a starting-level big man in the Big Ten, at the very least.
