Who won ‘The Voice’ season 22? Brayden, Bodie, Bryce, Morgan, Omar

This was it! They’ve been performing in front of millions of television viewers for weeks and now the winner of “The Voice” season 22 has been crowned. Is it Michigan’s Brayden Lape, Bodie from Los Angeles, Georgia’s Bryce Leatherwood, Pennsylvania’s Morgan Myles or Orlando’s Omar Jose Cardona? The competition started more than two months ago with the Blind Auditions round, followed by the Battle Round and then the Knockout Round before the top 16 performed in the first live show. 16 became 13, 13 became 10, 10 became 8 and 8 became the final 5 with Grass Lake, Michigan’s Brayden Lape being the youngest of the 16.

Expect I-94 traffic backups as closures affect westbound highway lanes

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Intermittent single-lane closures are coming to I-94 in Jackson County. The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing single westbound lanes of the highway from U.S. 127 to Airport road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. The lane closures will allow crews t safely remove temporary concrete barriers and replace pavement markings, officials said. Portable, changeable message signs will display information on the lane closures. Win or not, ‘he’s a star.’ Community turns out to watch Brayden Lape in ‘The Voice’ finale

The theater came alive when the 16-year-old, Grass Lake High School student and athlete was on the big screen. He’s a winner.”People at the watch party wore shirts with Lape’s name on them and Grass Lake gear to show their support. “When I decided to audition for this, I would have never imagined that I made it all the way to the finale,” Lape said in the video. Owens and Gerald Smith of Grass Lake said they were not surprised by how far he has come on the show.

Man hospitalized after shooting near downtown Jackson

JACKSON, MI -- A late-night shooting that left a man hospitalized is currently under investigation, police said. At about 11 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, officers from the Jackson Police Department were dispatched to the 400 block of West North Street near downtown Jackson for a report of a shooting victim. At the scene, officers found a 30-year-old man who had allegedly been shot in the driveway of his residence, police said. The man was shot several times, suffered multiple wounds mostly to his torso, said Jackson Deputy Police Chief Sergio Garcia. No arrests have been made yet, and the shooting is still under investigation, police said.

Latest ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ movie will film in Detroit next week

DETROIT -- Axel Foley is coming home. Filming for “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” will begin in Detroit next week and last until Dec. 2, according to Fox 2 Detroit. The movie is being produced by Netflix, which will be the fourth installment in the film franchise and the first new entry since 1994. Parking will be restricted in the areas of Washington Blvd. between State St. and Grand River Ave. for the duration of shooting, as well as near State St. between Washington Blvd to Griswold.

JACKSON -- We’re almost through the 2022 regular season and playoff races are heating up. Teams are getting a clearer picture of where they stand in the playoff points pack, and some conference crowns have already been handed out with a few more up for grabs this week. Grass Lake (4-3, 3-2 Cascades)The win-one-lose-one pattern continued in Week 7 for the Warriors with a 34-18 win over Addison. Lumen Christi (4-3, 3-1 Interstate 8)It would have been silly to count out Lumen Christi three weeks into the season. The current winning streak, and the impressive strength of schedule of the first four weeks of the season, has the Titans sitting fourth in Division 7 in playoff points.

Michigan prep football notebook: Giants of the SEC get slain in the same week

With Saline’s 7-0 loss to Temperance Bedford last week, the Hornets saw their impressive 50-game win streak in the SEC Red come to an end. When Tecumseh beat Chelsea, 50-34, it actually decided the champion of the the SEC White. Chelsea had won the previous three SEC White championships but the loss to Tecumseh ended that and snapped Chelsea’s 22-game win streak in the division. Chelsea’s SEC White win streak began four years ago after Chelsea lost to Jackson on Sept. 21, 2018. Hats off to them.”Tecumseh had never won an SEC White title before and it remains undefeated at 7-0 this season.

Grass Lake able to hold off Addison in Cascades Conference clash

GRASS LAKE -- Addison was able to keep things close much of the way, but every time the Panthers got within striking distance, the Grass Lake Warriors responded, and Grass Lake pulled out the 34-18 win on Friday in a Cascades Conference game. Grass Lake put the first two touchdowns on the board before Addison responded with two of its own, missing both two-point conversions to keep Grass Lake in front. “We knew we didn’t need too much time, we just needed the right play,” Grass Lake coach Randy Cole said. Addison’s ensuing drive was stopped by a fumble, recovered by Grass Lake’s Josh Claussen, and on the next drive Grass Lake made a fourth-down stop. But Addison then went three-and-out and booted the ball away before Grass Lake marched down for its second score.

The Vandercook Lake boys basketball team beat Grass Lake 61-56 on Wednesday. The Warriors led 12-8 after one quarter, but a 29-point second quarter for Vandercook Lake put the Jayhawks in front 37-26 at halftime. Grass Lake falls to Lakewood at Olivet

OLIVET -- The Grass Lake boys basketball team was able to all but erase one early deficit on Saturday and make a run at cutting into another, but ultimately fell to Lakewood 52-33 in the GLAC/Cascades Challenge at Olivet College. Lakewood jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first only to have the Warriors get back within a point by the end of the quarter. “Overall they showed what we thought they would show, we were getting the movements we were hoping to get,” Grass Lake coach Kyle McDaniel said. Grass Lake suffered another offensive lull to open the third quarter, missing on its first seven trips down the floor of the half, with six of those being turnovers. In the meantime, Lakewood extended the lead to 35-16 before Grass Lake started putting things together again to get the deficit down to 35-23.
