news.yahoo.comHow to watch the final presidential debate between Trump and Biden
Thursday’s matchup between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will mark the end of a presidential debate season that has spanned 16 months. Since June 2019, Americans have been asked to watch more than 30 hours of robust discussion spread over 13 Democratic primary events, one presidential debate and one vice presidential debate. The final debate follows weeks of surprise illness, controversy and the Trump campaign’s feuds with both the Biden team and the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates. “The same was true in 2016, when President Trump participated in the CPD debates. “The Trump campaign is lying about that now because Donald Trump is afraid to face more questions about his disastrous COVID response.”What does Trump have to say about Welker?
latimes.comTrump has been attacking the presidential debate commission. What is it and how did it come about?
Right in the middle of that controversy is the Commission on Presidential Debates, a little-known nonprofit that has managed the matchups for decades. The second and final bout between Republican President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden is set for Thursday night in Nashville. Did the Commission on Presidential Debates always run debates? The new, major-party-sponsored Commission on Presidential Debates would serve that role for the next three decades and continues today. But they are, of course, not the only presidential candidates who exist, and they are certainly not the only candidates who win Americans’ votes.

Commission adopts new rules to mute mics during next presidential debate
The 90-minute debate is divided into six 15-minute segments, with each candidate granted two minutes to deliver uninterrupted remarks before proceeding to an open debate. The open discussion portion of the debate will not feature a mute button, but interruptions by either candidate will count toward their time in the second and final debate Thursday. The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates announced the rule changes Monday, three weeks after a chaotic opening faceoff between the two presidential contenders that featured frequent interruptions — most by Trump. The commission has faced pressure from the Trump campaign to avoid changing the rules, while Biden’s team was hoping for a more ordered debate. In a statement, the commission said it “had determined that it is appropriate to adopt measures intended to promote adherence to agreed upon rules and inappropriate to make changes to those rules.”-- The Associated Press

TV gives viewers a split-screen comparison of Trump, Biden
President Donald Trump wipes his face during a break in an NBC News Town Hall, at Perez Art Museum Miami, Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, in Miami. NBC News chief executive Cesar Conde said Thursday that NBC scheduled Trump out of fairness after Biden did a town hall at the same time last Thursday. There were apparently still hard feelings, given that Muir twice mentioned a nameless “another network” holding a Trump town hall. “Has there ever been two more different presidential candidates than Trump or Biden?” asked The Washington Post's Glenn Kessler in a tweet. At a rally in North Carolina on Thursday, Trump called NBC “the worst" and said he was being set up with the town hall.
Second presidential debate between President Trump, Joe Biden cancelled
The second presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden is officially off. The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates confirmed Friday that the Oct. 15 faceoff would be scrapped. The decision was made a day after the commission announced the debate would take place “virtually” because Trump had contracted the coronavirus. Trump balked at holding the debate in that format, and Biden scheduled a town hall with ABC News for that night once Trump said he would not participate. The third debate, scheduled for Oct. 22 in Nashville, Tennessee, is still on.

Trump vows not to participate in virtual debate with Biden
Trump, who is eager to return to the campaign trail despite uncertainty about his health, said he wouldn’t participate if the debate wasn’t in person. The Oct. 22 debate in Nashville, Tennessee, is scheduled to feature a format similar to the first. Biden’s campaign has suggested that it be modified to the “town meeting” format, though the Trump campaign has not weighed in. As he campaigned in Arizona, Biden said he would indeed attend the Oct. 22 debate. Trump fell ill with the virus on Oct. 1, just 48 hours after sharing a stage with Biden in person during the first presidential debate in Cleveland.
Trump refuses to participate in virtual debate on Oct. 15: 'I'm not going to waste my time'
"No I'm not going to waste my time on a virtual debate," he said during an interview Thursday morning on the Fox Business channel. The second of three presidential debates this fall was originally slated to take place in Miami, Florida on Oct. 15. A Biden campaign source told NBC News that the CPD made the decision independently. Following Trump's refusal to do a virtual debate, the Biden campaign proposed that the third and final debate, currently scheduled for Oct. 22, be held as a town-hall debate, instead of just the two men and a moderator. The Biden campaign rejected the idea of adding another debate day, noting that it was Trump, not Biden, who blew up the Oct. 15 debate by refusing to participate under the rules set by the commission.

A fact sheet distributed by the commission said, "Plexiglass will be used as part of the CPD's overall approach to health and safety." Politico first reported that the plexiglass would be used at the vice presidential debate. In a letter to Trump private attorney Rudy Giuliani, his liaison to the commission, the commission writes that it is committed to its existing schedule of three debates between Trump and his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, saying it would consider adding a fourth debate only if both sides agree to it. Giuliani wrote to the debate commission Wednesday requesting that the schedule be moved up on account of expanded early and mail voting because of the coronavirus pandemic. While more people will likely vote by mail in 2020, the debate schedule has been and will be highly publicized, the commission said. The seeming acceptance that a vast number of this years votes will be cast by mail marks a change for the campaign. Both Giuliani and Trump have criticized widespread mail voting and claimed without evidence that mail ballots are ripe for fraud. In the Monday letter, OMalley Dillon also pointed out that the Trump campaigns request for more debates marked a shift from December, when advisers were threatening that Trump might skip the debates altogether. The Trump campaign proposal for elaborate negotiations is merely an effort to dodge fair, even-handed debates, OMalley Dillon wrote.
