Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions offense struggle in back-to-back losses
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions are now 3-5, and one of the many questions facing the team is the performance of the offense and play of quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford started the game well, but faded in the second half, throwing two interceptions as the Lions tried to come back against the Minnesota Vikings. Stafford -- and the Lions' offense as a whole -- has been inconsistent all year. After the game, Stafford called the interception a bad decision, saying, “I didn’t see (the linebacker), otherwise I wouldn’t have thrown it. Earlier in the game, Stafford had a streak of 16 straight completions.

Colts stuff Detroit running game in 41-21 win over Lions
DETROIT – The postgame stats stuck out in glaring fashion after the latest home loss by the Detroit Lions. Detroit's anemic running game — and indeed, its offensive ineptitude in general — had the Lions playing from behind the entire second half Sunday, and they eventually lost 41-21 to Indianapolis. The Lions managed only 29 yards rushing and lost the time of possession battle badly. “You want to try to do your best to stay balanced all the way through the game,” coach Matt Patricia said. “In order to win, you’ve got to stop the run.”Peterson is averaging 3.8 yards per carry in his first season with the Lions.

Detroit Lions need to let Matthew Stafford loose
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions are 3-3 after back-to-back wins following their bye week. If the Lions do want to make a run to the playoffs, they need to let Matthew Stafford loose. Here are reasons the Lions need to let Matthew Stafford carry the offense if they want to make a playoff run. The Lions need Stafford to continue hitting on those deep throws, as their offense has been inconsistent this season. If the Lions are inconsistent in how they want to run, or can’t get much of a run game going, that’s even more reason to let Stafford carry the offense.

The Saints took a step toward sealing the win with Brees converting a third-and-5 from his 27 with a 19-yard pass to Smith. In Week 2, they were ahead by 11 points against Green Bay before giving up 31 straight points and losing an 11th straight game. “Let’s just talk about the Saints game," Patricia said when asked if he was concerned about his job security. Thomas, who practiced during the week, missed a third straight game with an ankle injury.

Lions activate safety Jayron Kearse after 3-game suspension
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions activated safety Jayron Kearse after he served a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on substance abuse. Detroit released running back Ty Johnson on Thursday to clear a roster spot for Kearse. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Kearse signed a one-year, $2 million deal with Detroit as a free agent. The Lions drafted Johnson out of Maryland in the sixth round last year and he had 63 carries for 273 yards as a rookie. Detroit (1-2) hosts New Orleans (1-2) on Sunday.

The Detroit Lions are 0-2: How do they fix their season?
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions are 0-2 after two bad losses to start the season. Comparing the first two games of this year to last season show Stafford’s stats have dropped off. The Lions are still running deeper patterns, Stafford just isn’t throwing the ball deep as much as last year. Finally, Jamal Agnew lost the Lions 20 yards of field position when he committed a personal foul on a punt return. Getting rid of those mistakes is a good start to helping the Lions try to avoid starting 0-3 this year.

Dull ‘Dagger’: Another collapse costs Lions their opener
DETROIT – If the Detroit Lions' first game was any indication, their “Dagger Time” mantra could use some sharpening. For a second consecutive season, the Lions blew a big fourth-quarter lead in their opening game. On Sunday against Chicago, the Lions allowed the last 21 points in a 27-23 loss to the Bears. Rookie D'Andre Swift, who had scored the game's first touchdown in the second quarter, dropped what could have been the winning TD with 6 seconds left. Don't let this get you down,'” said Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 93 yards in his first game with the Lions.

Trubisky threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help Chicago come back from a 17-point deficit. It looked familiar to Lions fans: Detroit opened last season by blowing an 18-point lead at Arizona and settling for a tie.
