Off-duty Detroit cop suspended, fled police after crash involving stolen car from Ohio
DETROIT -- An officer with the Detroit Police Department was suspended this week after he was arrested early Sunday morning by members of the same department. The officer was riding as the passenger in a Dodge Charger early Sunday morning that was seen speeding by police. After arresting the man, police learned he was a fellow officer and that the car he was riding in was stolen out of Ohio. The car was reported stolen “several months prior,” but had been retagged using a different vehicle identification number. The officer was initially suspended with pay following his arrest, but Chief James White is petitioning the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners to have the suspended officer’s wages withheld.

DETROIT – Detroit Police Department Assistant Chief, David LeValley, recently spoke to Local 4 News about the crash that happened Thursday involving a Tesla and semi truck in Southwest Detroit. The crash left the passenger of the Tesla, 21-year-old Esmeralda Barco, critically injured. On Tuesday, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office announced changes against the Tesla driver, Detroit resident and 22-year-old, Jean Paul Guerrero. The crash took place at the intersection of Fort Street and Waterman Road while Guerrero was allegedly speeding and struck the semi truck. “My understanding, there are a few other crashes involving Tesla vehicles in other parts of the country,” said LeValley.
Detroit police say innocent man was killed by gunfire between rival gangs
DETROIT - Detroit police say an innocent man was killed Thursday when he walked out of a gas station. Officials said the man was caught in the middle of a dispute between rival gangs. Police said a white Dodge Caravan with three to four people inside followed a black 2010 Ford Taurus into the parking lot. Someone in the Caravan started firing at the Taurus, hitting the innocent victim. Police say the driver of the Caravan was seen driving north on I-75.
