Michigan injury notes: Roman Wilson, Ronnie Bell, OL shuffling

— Michigan was without top target Roman Wilson on Saturday, one week after the sophomore wide receiver suffered an undisclosed injury. As a result, Michigan (6-0) had to play without him, providing quarterback Cade McNamara one fewer receiver option. Graduate transfer Daylen Baldwin benefitted the most, turning a game-high 14 targets into six catches for 64 yards. The injury came at just about the worst time for Wilson, a Honolulu, Hawaii, native who was beginning to emerge as Michigan’s No. Of course, that’s notwithstanding the season-ending knee injury to receiver Ronnie Bell, who is scheduled to have surgery (finally) this week.

Michigan football’s aggressive play calling might be here to stay

WR Daylen Baldwin says he’s healthy, ready to contribute to Michigan passing game

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — An ankle injury that kept Daylen Baldwin off the field for all but one snap during Michigan’s first two games is feeling better. Through two games the Wolverines have elected to keep the offense on the ground, rushing for 339 yards and seven touchdowns. Michigan doesn’t have another receiver of that caliber on the roster — at least, one who’s flashed that ability in games — but Baldwin hopes to be. Michigan quick hits: Harbaugh’s Washington commentary, Ronnie Bell tweets, Daylen Baldwin note

“They’ve heard from friends — because they’ve told me — that Washington considers Michigan like their biggest game,” Harbaugh told the “Stoney and Jansen” morning show. “So, that game last week isn’t indicative of the type of team that Washington is. Or how they prepare for the Michigan Wolverines.”Time will tell, obviously, but Michigan opened the week as a 5 1/2-point betting favorite. WR Daylen Baldwin grew up an Ohio State fan. Now he’s headed to Michigan

Daylen Baldwin grew up in southeast Michigan, calling Southfield home while he attended nearby Farmington High School — before eventually transferring to Waterford. All of his friends were fans of either Michigan or Michigan State, the two big-time colleges, and understandably so. Baldwin, in a recent interview with MLive, said the opportunity came shortly after a workout for Ohio State. In his first two seasons at Morgan State, Baldwin only caught 30 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns. But his decision to transfer to Jackson State in 2019 helped launch his upward trajectory.

Michigan football lands grad transfer receiver

Daylen Baldwin, a graduate transfer wide receiver from Jackson State, announced his verbal commitment to the Wolverines on Monday. Reports say Baldwin, who is from Southfield, earned a scholarship offer after working out in front of Michigan coaches last week. As a senior, Baldwin led Jackson State with 27 catches, 540 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during an abbreviated six-game schedule this spring. The addition gives Michigan some added experience and depth at wide receiver, after Giles Jackson abruptly transferred out of Michigan in the spring. He is the third grad transfer to commit to Michigan in 2021, following quarterback Alan Bowman (Texas Tech) and defensive tackle Jordan Whittley (Oregon State).
