Don’t be surprised if you see something colorful flying over Belle Isle this weekend. The 4th annual Detroit Kite Festival is back this Sunday and they plan to fill the sky with a vivid sight the family will enjoy. Joining host Jason Carr today on “Live In The D” was the Director of the Detroit Kite Festival, Margo Dalal, and Kite enthusiast, Gary Maynard.

All eyes will be on the skies at Belle Isle this weekend, The Detroit Kite Festival is happening Sunday July 14. There will be professional kite flyers, kite making and more; and you and your family are encouraged to bring your kites and join in on the fun. Gary Maynard, captain of The Windjammers Kite Team, and team pilot Michael Carlisle joined Jason Carr to discuss the event and what people can look forward to. The Windjammers are the oldest professional kite flying team in the world and they travel to different countries flying kites. The Detroit Kite Festival will be held Sunday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Belle Isle.

Thats why the Detroit Kite Festival was started and thats what it remains to this day: a way to reconnect with a more whimsical state of mind for a few hours every summer. We call it a summer slowdown, says Margo Dalal, kite crew member and one of the festivals founders. The Detroit Kite Festival is a feast for the sensesthere will be music, food vendors, activities, and performances. But of course kite flying takes center stage.
