Thanks to a wave of support from the community, Dominic's Christmas Wish drive is donating thousands of pajamas, toys and more to local children in need this Christmas.

The 13-year-old boy behind Dominic's Christmas Wish pajama and book drive is asking the community for extra help this year due to his particularly difficult year battling illness.

One Downriver nurse is redefining what it means to take care of her patients by going beyond the hospital bed.

DETROIT – For 50 years, Chef Phil Jones has cooked in high-end restaurants and fed those in need. In March 2020, on Friday the 13th, COVID took away Jones’ catering business and cooking classes. “They have thousands of pounds of produce to try and get out to the community,” Jones recalled. “All these wonderful people coming out to TCF to load trucks and cars and vans and trailers,” Jones recalled. His desire to give back during a pandemic led to the Detroit Free Press to name him 2021 Chef of the Year.

DETROIT – The holiday was much quieter Thursday for most Metro Detroiters. “It’s a great time to give back to the city.”For years, Vang has volunteered to cook for families in need during Thanksgiving. The free meals were given away at the third annual “Full Plates, Full Hearts” event. The Detroit Shipping Company and both the Michigan and Detroit restaurant and lodging associations hosted the event. “Don’t take life for granted, that’s what I want him to take from today,” Jackson said.

Knowing that, some Metro Detroit restaurants came up with a solution. “I’m an emotional guy, I feel for those people,” said Joe Ciamillo. Joe Ciamillo and his sister, Ashley Ciamillo, own Joe’s Italian Take-Out on 23 Mile Road in Shelby Township. “Especially older people who really look forward to being with their family,” Joe Ciamillo said. “We usually get together with our family for Thanksgiving.”Anyone who has to celebrate Thanksgiving alone due to COVID-19 can get a free meal from Joe’s Italian Take-Out.

REDFORD, Mich – A new business owner in Metro Detroit decided to make giving back to the community her first order of business. Kathyna Melton is a single Metro Detroit mother of two who used to manage at a Dominos Pizza. Since then, she’s gone from worker to boss by working hard, building credit and dreaming big.
