Ann Arbor OKs $637K for ‘universal access’ overhaul at Argo Park and canoe livery
ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor is moving ahead with plans for universal-access improvements at one of the city’s most popular recreation destinations along the Huron River. City Council OK’d over $637,000 in funding at its July 20 meeting for an upcoming transformation of the area around the Argo Park canoe and kayak livery. One of the main goals in the city’s Parks and Recreation Open Space Plan is to ensure the park system is comprehensive, inclusive and engaging, Smith said. After receiving seven bids for the Argo Park project, the city determined Brock and Associates Inc. was the lowest responsible bidder. In addition to the new accessibility features, other site improvements planned as part of the Argo Park project include new green infrastructure such as bioswales and rain gardens to manage stormwater runoff, Smith said.
