Mask mandate prompts Oakland County parents to sue 3 school districts, health department

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI - Parents are suing three Oakland County school districts and the county’s health department, demanding an end to in-school mask mandates. The lawsuit includes Huron Valley Schools, Waterford School District and Troy School District. “The schools are being sued because they are unlawfully enforcing the illegal county mask mandate order,” Attorney David Kallman said. Parents and citizens of Walled Lake also are threatening to sue the health department and their district if the mask mandate isn’t lifted. St. Clair County school mask mandate will expire Jan. 28, usage still strongly recommended

Huron Valley Schools district shifting to remote learning for at least a week

The Huron Valley Schools district is shifting to remote learning for at least a week after Oakland County’s coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak risk level was increased last week. A level E risk determination means that there are 150 or greater cases per million with a 20 or greater percent positivity rate. There are school districts in the state and country that are operating in counties with a level E risk determination. Huron Valley Schools will be moved to full remote learning for at least the week of November 2nd. The state’s new risk level appears to be largely due to an increased infection rate and rapid increase of daily new COVID-19 cases.
