Mattel launched a reproduction of the original Ken doll on Thursday to commemorate his 1961 debut. โI would say Ken is a good friend and a best friend, a supportive best friend to the Barbie doll,โ Best said. AdThe original Barbie, launched in 1959, also came in a bathing suit, a minimalist strategy to encourage consumers to buy outfits and accessories.
Mattel Creates Its 1st Gender-Neutral Doll
Instead of Barbie or Ken, heres a third option to consider offering your kids. Mattel is introducing its first line of gender-neutral dolls, which skip breasts and broad shoulders, and instead take a more customizable route. The Creatable World dolls, available in several different skin tones, come with different hair styles, different clothing options and different accessories, from long hair wigs and skirts to short hair wigs and hats. The dolls are intended for all kids and all families, and Culmone explained they came to develop this product after speaking with physicians, parents, experts and kids. Through research, we heard that kids dont want their toys dictated by gender norms, said Culmone.

How Did 2 Teachers Both Drown in a Backyard Swimming Pool?
Two Iowa teachers were found dead in a swimming pool in what authorities have said was a double accidental drowning. The bodies of Kenneth Anderson, 57, and Mark Anderson, 60, were found in a pool in the backyard of a Davenport home at 8:53 p.m. Monday, police said. The pair were house-sitting for the propertys owner, who had not heard from them in 24 hours and called law enforcement. Kenneth was a teacher and coach at Bellevue Middle School-High School, while Mark had retired in 2014 before becoming a substitute teacher, authorities said. Listening and counseling services were offered at the middle school and high school Wednesday, he noted.
