(Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)DETROIT – Kirk Cousins danced in the end zone after running for a go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the Minnesota Vikings went on to celebrate the end of a disappointing season with a 37-35 win over the lowly Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Vikings (7-9) failed for the fourth time in a decade to make two straight trips to the playoffs. The Lions (5-11) lost their last four games eight of 10 after going into November with a .500 record under former coach Matt Patricia. In a matchup without postseason implications, the Vikings and Lions combined to play a closely contested game with a lot of highlights and lowlights. Alexander Mattison ran for 16 yards to convert a fourth-and-1 from the Lions 25 with 2:28 left, allowing the Vikings to run out the clock to seal the win.
Brady-led Bucs can clinch playoff spot with win over Lions
DETROIT – Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are rolling into the Motor City with a chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs. The six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback and the Bucs (9-5) are a victory away from earning a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2007. “I call them `Hat and T-Shirt' games," Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians said. He had five catches for a season-best 93 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown that capped last week’s comeback win over Atlanta. GRONK FANTampa Bay tight end Rob Gronkowski will have at least one request after the game.

They fired general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia while elevating Bevell, their offensive coordinator, to interim coach. But the Lions turned things around down the stretch, sending the Bears (5-7) to their sixth straight loss. The Lions came out on top after losing four of five, and Stafford gave Bevell the game ball.
Nick Chubb all about the victory, not stats or spreads
Cleveland Browns running backs Nick Chubb (24) and Kareem Hunt (27) walk off the field after an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, in Cleveland. A win is a win; let Las Vegas worry about the margin of victory. It appeared there were actually 10 seconds left when down judge Dana McKenzie blew his whistle and raised his left hand. There actually should have been only 4 seconds left, which probably would have forced a Hail Mary by Stafford. But with 6 seconds left, Stafford had time for a quick pass, and he hit Marvin Jones for 9 yards.
Prater’s 59-yard FG lifts Lions to 30-27 win over Washington
(AP Photo/Duane Burleson)DETROIT – The Detroit Lions leaned on their dynamic duo for comebacks and they came through again. Matthew Stafford directed the final drive with just 16 seconds left to set up Matt Prater's 59-yard field goal as time expired, lifting the Lions to a 30-27 win over Washington on Sunday. Prater made a go-ahead, 37-yard field goal with 2:42 remaining. It made a field goal and had a punt, missed field goal and Terry McLaurin's fumble on the possessions. In the second half, Washington got into the end zone on 82- and 84-yard drives and had the ball midway through the fourth quarter down a touchdown.
Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions offense struggle in back-to-back losses
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions are now 3-5, and one of the many questions facing the team is the performance of the offense and play of quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford started the game well, but faded in the second half, throwing two interceptions as the Lions tried to come back against the Minnesota Vikings. Stafford -- and the Lions' offense as a whole -- has been inconsistent all year. After the game, Stafford called the interception a bad decision, saying, “I didn’t see (the linebacker), otherwise I wouldn’t have thrown it. Earlier in the game, Stafford had a streak of 16 straight completions.
Why didn’t Detroit Lions do more at the trade deadline?
DETROIT – It was a quiet trade deadline for the Detroit Lions as they opted to mostly stay put with what they had. Sitting at 3-4 and currently not holding a playoff spot, why didn’t Detroit do more at the deadline? One trade was enoughThe Lions picked up defensive end Everson Griffen last week for a conditional sixth round pick. Giving up another draft pick would’ve been too expensive for the Lions. They’re different players, but when the Lions traded Golden Tate at the deadline in 2018, they got a third-round pick in return.
Rivers' 3 TDs in 2nd quarter help Colts beat Lions 41-21
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers (17) throws during the first half of an NFL football game against the Detroit Lions, Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, in Detroit. Rivers threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to help the Colts surge past Detroit for a 41-21 victory Sunday following a first quarter in which they averaged a little more than 1 yard rushing on 10 carries. Rivers threw passes to 11 teammates. Hines had so much energy he celebrated each of his two touchdowns in the second quarter with moves that would make a gymnast proud, pulling off roundoffs into full twists in the end zone. Three plays later, Rivers threw a 7-yard, tiebreaking touchdown pass to Jack Doyle.
Detroit Lions need to let Matthew Stafford loose
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions are 3-3 after back-to-back wins following their bye week. If the Lions do want to make a run to the playoffs, they need to let Matthew Stafford loose. Here are reasons the Lions need to let Matthew Stafford carry the offense if they want to make a playoff run. The Lions need Stafford to continue hitting on those deep throws, as their offense has been inconsistent this season. If the Lions are inconsistent in how they want to run, or can’t get much of a run game going, that’s even more reason to let Stafford carry the offense.
Jones' big day helps Packers beat Lions 42-21 in home opener
Jones rushed for a career-high 168 yards and scored three touchdowns, including a 75-yard breakaway, as the Green Bay Packers rallied from an early 11-point deficit to beat the Detroit Lions 42-21 on Sunday. After his first touchdown of the day, a 7-yard reception from Aaron Rodgers, Jones did a different kind of Lambeau Leap. Rodgers was 18 of 30 for 240 yards with touchdown passes to Jones and Robert Tonyan. Green Bay took the lead for good 17-14 on Rodgers’ 11-yard pass to Tonyan with 14 seconds left in the second quarter. It looked familiar to Lions fans: Detroit opened last season by blowing an 18-point lead at Arizona and settling for a tie. Late in the game, Lions fans likely would've filled the facility with a chorus of boos.
Detroit Lions analysis: 4 Stafford throws from win over Giants
Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford had a fantastic game Sunday in the Lions’ win over the New York Giants. The Lions fake a run and Stafford rolls right as Jones goes deep, Golladay half-heartedly runs a dig and the running back runs a backside wheel route. It was a bad decision and even worse throw right to the defender. It was good play design by Lions’ offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and a good read and throw by Stafford. Stafford pitches to JD McKissic, who then throws back to Stafford who throws a deep post to Golladay for the score.

Prior to the interception, the Lions steadily move the ball down the field and look like they're going to score. On the interception, the Lions roll Stafford out after a play action fake.
