In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, fresh food and cool air are coming from Houston community groups that have honed their disaster services in a city frequently battered by extreme weather.

In the everyday rush and hecticness, there are so many unsung heroes who go beyond their own needs to help make life better for others: volunteers.

Happening on Thursday, May 30, the event raises money for Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels, Housing Bureau for Seniors, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and three other senior services in Washtenaw County.

There are always people who can use a helping hand, just like there are always people who have the time or resources to help those individuals.
