New data shows Michigan traffic-related deaths rose to a 16-year high in 2021.

DETROIT – A portion of I-94 will be closed in Detroit this weekend due to bridge work. Elliott Street overpass will close I-94 from Gratiot Avenue to I-75 in Detroit beginning Friday, Dec. 11. Entrance ramps to westbound I-94 between Conner Road and Chene Street will close at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11. Amid the closures, westbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to southbound Gratiot Avenue to westbound Gratiot Connector, then northbound I-75 back to westbound I-94. Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to southbound I-75 to the eastbound Gratiot Connector, then eastbound Gratiot Avenue back to eastbound I-94.

Eastbound lanes on I-96 are closed in Oakland County on Saturday. Officials say eastbound I-96 is closed at the M-5 Freeway as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The cause for the closure was not announced. More: Local Traffic

DETROIT – A massive wave of road construction in Metro Detroit is far from over -- it’s time to redo I-94. Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officially has the go ahead to rebuild both directions of I-94 from Conner Street to I-96. Construction is expected to get underway in 2023.
