Grosse Pointe Park man who displayed KKK flag facing Black neighbor wonโt face charges
GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. โ Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy characterized the Ku Klux Klan flag displayed in a Grosse Pointe Park home as despicable and traumatizing but not a crime under the law. Under Michiganโs ethnic intimidation statute, it requires physical contact or damage and defacement to property. The flag has since been taken down after Grosse Pointe Park police went to the home. The neighbor told police that the flag was put up because Dinges had a camera pointing into his home.
Michigan DNR officer rescues elderly woman from burning home in Spring Lake
SPRING LAKE, Mich. A Michigan Department of Natural Resources conversation officer rescued an elderly woman from a burning mobile home Wednesday evening in Spring Lake. According to a press release from the DNR, officer Robert Slick, who was off-duty at the time, was jogging at about 5:30 p.m. when he spotted smoke from a distance. The department is proud of Officer Slick and the gentleman who assisted him, said Gary Hagler, chief of the DNR Law Enforcement Division. A conservation officer is never truly off-duty and is trained to respond to situations like this.DNR officials said Slick stayed with the woman until medical personnel arrived and evaluated her. Slick has been with the DNR Law Enforcement Division since 2015 and patrols in Ottawa County.
Flat Rock family says trusted neighbor used log to peer through window of teenagersโ bathroom
FLAT ROCK, Mich. โ A Flat Rock family feels victimized and violated after a trusted neighbor was caught using a log to peer through the window of their teenagersโ bathroom, officials said. Family members said Paul Stabnick lives just down the street in their quiet subdivision. They live right next to Flat Rock Community High School and an elementary school. The father of two teenagers said he noticed a log kept showing up under his childrenโs bathroom window. He put up a trail camera that captured image after image of Stabnick lurking by the window, climbing up and peering inside the bathroom, according to authorities.
