NEW YORK The Seattle Storm are healthy to begin the season with Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird back in the lineup and sit atop the preseason Associated Press WNBA poll. 1 in the preseason since the AP has been doing the poll. You have to go out there and play the games, said Bird, who missed last season while recovering from knee surgery. Connecticut and Washington, who met for the WNBA title last year, were sixth and seventh in the poll. Last time these two teams met up the Wings handled the Sparks with a 12-point margin of victory. This time things were different, as the Sparks came out on top but not without a fight from the Wings. This was the Sparks third straight win and game without All-Star guard Candace Parker.

The Los Angeles Sparks pulled out a close five-point win against the Dallas Sparks on Thursday. Last time these two teams met up the Wings handled the Sparks with a 12-point margin of victory. The Sparks trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half but exploded in a 24-9 run in the third quarter to take the lead. Nneka Ogwumike scored 22 points while her sis Chiney added 12 points and Chelsea Gray had 11 points and nine rebounds. Allisha Gray added 11 points while Imani McGee-Stafford contributed 9 points.

Dallas, though, did welcome the return of forward Glory Johnson, who had been representing Montenegro in the EuroBasket tournament. Johnson, playing her first WNBA game since June 15, had four points, three rebounds and two steals in 14 minutes.
