Zuckerberg says he meets with "lots of people across the spectrum on lots of different issues" and suggested others do the same. Facebook has fought allegations since the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election that it's not doing enough to stop bogus accounts and political ads on its platform. Conservatives have long accused Facebook of suppressing conservative political views.

The move represents another change of course from the White House on a major policy front. Two sources told CNN that there was a meeting about the rescission package at the White House on Thursday. White House officials believed they had the authority to cancel the already-appropriated funds without congressional approval. Opponents of the move also warned about the impact the cuts would have on national security and US foreign policy objectives.
