Celebrate the summer harvest with two award-winning chefs at this pop-up event
Summer in Michigan is great for many things, we have beautiful lakes, some of the best sunsets around, and a great summer harvest. There are lots of fruits and vegetables that are ripe and ready to eat right now, and that is what inspired a pop-up event being put on by two award-winning chefs.
This project helps Detroit-area restaurants and feeds the community at the same time
A partnership between the Detroit Free Press and Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers is aiming to make the best of a difficult time. It’s called Top 10 Cares, and it’s all about connecting struggling restaurants with funds to help them feed local communities. The Top 10 Cares initiative sends donations directly to local restaurants, who then deliver healthy, locally sourced meals to community members in need. Now, the goal is shifting to feed Detroit-area community members who have been hard hit by the pandemic. Anani said the money he’s gotten to feed the community has helped him keep his doors open.

This Detroit Moroccan restaurant has won several awards
Originally he thought of making Fat Panda Kitchen into a restaurant but noticed there were several Asain Fusion restaurants in the area. Where are the closest Moroccan restaurants in the city? So I did a Google search and nothing popped up, said Omar. So in April of 2019, he opened Saffron De Twah, adding his own flair to classic Moroccan foods and flavors. The restaurant is small but features lots of colorful lanterns on the wall, and a beautiful mural on the outside wall. If you would like to try out Saffron De Twah they are located at 7636 Gratiot Avenue in Detroit.
