Ypsilanti man arrested after leading police on chase in stolen school bus

MONROE COUNTY, MI – An Ypsilanti man was arrested Tuesday morning after leading police in a chase through Monroe County in a stolen school bus, police say. Deputies patrolling the area saw a school bus matching the description and attempted to stop it, but were unsuccessful as it sped up attempting to evade the deputies as they pursued, police said. The driver and sole occupant of the bus locked the bus doors and refused to come out, leading police to force the door open and arrest the man without further incident, police said. The driver, a 52-year-old Ypsilanti man, was taken to the Monroe County Jail to await charges for the theft and pursuit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Benes at 734-240-7540, or the Road Patrol Shift Supervisor at 734-240-7700.

Ohio man arrested in road rage shooting on U.S. 23

MONROE COUNTY, MI – Police arrested a man Thursday morning after he allegedly shot at a fellow motorist on northbound U.S. 23 through Summerfield Township in Monroe County. Both men exited the freeway and, while on the Summerfield Road exit ramp, got out of their vehicles and began to fight, police said. A sheriff’s deputy in the area saw the pair fighting and stopped to investigate, police said. After speaking to both men, the 35 year old was arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail to await charges, police said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7530.

Two drivers from Toledo exited U.S. 23 in Monroe County to continue a road rage confrontation that included one firing shots at the other, police said.

35-year-old man killed in Monroe County single vehicle crash while speeding

Police say the victim, Lambertville resident Nathan James Mahrt, was driving a silver 2020 Nissan 370Z southbound on Douglas Road north of Summerfield Road when the crash happened. MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A 35-year-old man was killed in a single vehicle crash that happened on Summerfield east of Douglas in Bedford Township at around 3:46 a.m. Saturday. Police say the victim, Lambertville resident Nathan James Mahrt, was driving a silver 2020 Nissan 370Z southbound on Douglas north of Summerfield. While he was making a turn in the area the Nissan went off the roadway to the south. Police say speeding was a contributing factor in the crash.

Work on N. Stony Creek Rd. to begin soon

The Monroe County Road Commission has some local road projects planned, weather permitting. Improvements on N. Stony Creek Rd. Crews will add two inches of stone to the gravel road from S. Stony Creek Rd. to the dead end in Ash Township and from War Rd. Summerfield TownshipDixon Road at Summerfield Road - A tiling crew will continue installing two drain cross-tiles at the intersection Both Dixon and Summerfield will remain open to through traffic, Bagnall said.

Emergency closure issued for part of Sterns Rd.

The Monroe County Road Commission is working on emergency culvert repair between Secor and Summerfield. BEDFORD TOWNSHIP - Sterns Road between Secor Road and Summerfield Road will be closed as of this morning for an emergency repair, the Monroe County Road Commission reported. The closing is "until further notice" and is for emergency culvert work, the notice said. A detour will be posted using Secor Road to Smith Road to Douglas Road. Local residences, schools and emergency services will have access.
