The latest Detroit news, weather and sports from WDIV Local 4.
The manhunt for an accused murderer came to an end only after police discovered their suspect had been in the Wayne County morgue the entire time.
About a week after a Local 4 Defenders investigation first exposed problems at the morgue, the medical examiner was brought in before a Michigan Department of Health and Human Services board.
The 59-year-old was found dead in Detroit and brought to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office. Despite ID being on him, his family was not contacted until 17 months had passed.
The family said the morgue kept saying it didn’t have the 31-year-old mother.
