New class helps southeast Michigan seniors spot scams before they strike
A weekly class at Baldwin House Senior Living in southeast Michigan is helping seniors recognize and prevent scams, especially as AI-driven schemes become more sophisticated. Led by Wayne State University professor Peter Lichtenberg, the Financial Exploitation Prevention group teaches participants to track suspicious calls and emails through scam diaries. Seniors like Deb Overla and Grace Ciambelli, who have previously fallen victim to scams, report feeling more empowered and less isolated as a result of the program. The class emphasizes awareness, prevention, and peer support to combat financial exploitation targeting older adults.
