Metro Detroit weather: Nice Friday before weekend rain chances

Friday highs to reach mid 70s

DETROIT – Our Finally Friday forecast includes a few morning clouds mixed with hazy sunshine. Winds will shift from NE to SSE at 5-10 mph. We will have mostly sunshine this afternoon, with highs in the low-to-mid 70s once again.

It looks great for your high school football games tonight, as mostly clear skies will cool down through the 60s, and a few spots may even dip into the upper 50s later this evening. We are lucky to not need the rain gear or umbrellas or a thick coat here in October. Instead, a light jacket and/or sweatshirt should do the trick tonight.

Friday’s sunset is at 7:14 p.m.

Rain expected Saturday evening

Saturday will start with a ton of sunshine as temps begin in the low 50s. Highs will reach mid-to-upper 70s, though it is possible for a neighborhood or two to hit 80 degrees, if we can hang on to that sun through a chunk of the afternoon.

Right now, it looks like clouds will begin to increase in the mid-to-late afternoon, with winds moving SW at 5-12 mph. Rain will be on the way Saturday evening from west to east, or southwest to northeast, and we could get into some light rain and drizzle during the Michigan State University football game in East Lansing Saturday night. Pack some light rain gear just in case, but we expect more consistent rain after midnight.

Sunday will be the wetter of the weekend days around Metro Detroit with a morning soaker. We will see some breaks in the raid during the day, but unfortunately, those breaks will give way to period rain showers.

Highs will be a little closer to 70 degrees and winds will move SW at 5-15 mph.

More rain will move our way Sunday night into Monday morning, making for a slippery commute as we head back to work and school next week. Scattered showers will taper off Monday with highs in the low 70s -- but keep that umbrella handy.
