As October approaches, families are wondering what trick-or-treating might look like this Halloween due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Halloween is only weeks away, and U.S. families are expected to spend big on the holiday this year after it was stifled by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

DETROIT – We are starting our Finally Friday with lots of clouds and some lake effect rain showers near Lake Huron. Highs will struggle mightily today, as temps hold nearly steady in the low to mid 40s (5 to 7 degrees Celsius). Temperatures will fall into the mid 40s (7 degrees Celsius) during the early evening, so a couple of layers under the costume works well. We start the day with rain showers and temps in the mid 40s (7 to 8 degrees Celsius). Highs will warm into the mid 50s (12 degrees Celsius) on Tuesday, and then potentially be at or a little above 60 degrees (16 degrees Celsius) through the weekend!

Snow in October is not entirely surprising in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula -- but this much snow is record breaking. The National Weather Service reported two broken snowfall records at their Marquette office on Sunday. “We recorded 8.3 inches yesterday, which breaks the old record of 3.1 inches set in 1976! This recent snowfall also established a new monthly snowfall record for the month of October at our office. Weather records for the National Weather Service office located in Negaunee Township date back to 1961.”We haven’t seen any snow in the Metro Detroit region yet.

DETROIT – With COVID-19 numbers on the rise and Halloween right around the corner, the Detroit Health Department is urging everyone to take caution the All Hallows' Eve. We’ve had to deal with a lot of changes this year and Halloween will be no different. Detroit mayor Mike Duggan is working to make sure there’s still a whole lot of fun in the city. Unlike some areas of Metro Detroit, the Detroit Health Department and Duggan are not taking away Halloween. However, with cases on the rise, it’s crucial to keep Halloween safe this year.

October is National Pizza Month! You may want to try some new toppings or order from your favorite pizzeria. Comedian Mike Bonner, Lauren Crocker from the Blaine Fowler Morning Show on 96.3 FM WDVD, and comedian Melanie Hearn chatted with host Jason Carr about the great pizza debates: Does pineapple belong on Pizza? How do you classify a flatbread versus a pizza? Are you a fan of cold pizza?

The one exception will be in the Thumb, where Lake Huron moisture will give you more cloud cover and some scattered showers. The third ingredient is cloud cover, and that’s the question mark. Enough high resolution models bring in some of this cloud cover – which acts as a blanket and holds some heat in - that I think many of us won’t see frost. Our Urban Heat Island has the lowest risk, as temps there will only drop into the upper 30s (4 degrees Celsius). Next weekMonday looks great, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 60 degrees (15 to 16 degrees Celsius).

Amazon has rescheduled its annual Prime Day for mid-October after the company canceled the event due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Prime Day was originally supposed to be in July, but it was postponed. Prime Day will not run from Oct. 13 to Oct. 14 this year. Amazon started Prime Day in 2015. It already held Prime Day in India this summer.
