4Warn Weather – The tornado watch for Southeast Michigan has been canceled.

The watch was issued Wednesday morning (April 5) for all of Southeast Michigan. It was canceled for most counties around 1:45 p.m., and for the remainder around 3:15 p.m.

A tornado watch means the weather conditions are conducive for the development of severe thunderstorms, including tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, that means a tornado has been sighted or detected by radar.

A severe thunderstorm for Washtenaw County expired at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The severe thunderstorm warning for Livingston County expired at 12:30 p.m.

Tornado precautions

If you’re in an area under a tornado watch, you should keep an eye out for rapidly changing weather conditions and listen for possible warnings.

If a warning is issued in your area, immediately move to the lowest floor of your home, such as the basement. If you don’t have a basement, move to an interior portion of the home, like a bathroom or closet.

Try to put as many walls between your family and the outside as possible during a tornado warning. Stay away from windows, because they could be damaged by strong winds.
