Hot, humid conditions move into Metro Detroit for 4th of July holiday; Air Quality Alert issued

Tuesday highs in upper 80s, Wednesday highs in lower 90s

High temperatures will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s the next few days with heat index values higher than that possible (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – After a few isolated thundershowers working through the afternoon, the wet weather will come to an end for the most part in the next few days, but we will trade that in for the summer heat and humidity.

Any shower or thundershower activity should wind down by the mid-evening hours Monday night, leaving mainly clear skies for most everyone into the overnight hours.

Overnight lows drop into the middle 60s. With the humid conditions expected to continue tonight, we could see some patchy dense fog overnight into early Tuesday morning.

4th of July

For the 4th of July, high pressure will begin to move into the region and control the forecast, bringing plenty of sunshine as we work throughout the day along with warmer temperatures.

High temperatures with the sunshine will head for the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. With the moisture continuing to stick around the region, we will keep the option open for an isolated shower in the afternoon and evening with peak daytime heating.

The Michigan Department of Environment has issued another Air Quality Alert for the majority of Southeastern Michigan, this time, unlike last week. It is for elevated Ozone particulates in the atmosphere due to the increased heat and humidity.

Good idea to fill up the car before sunrise and/or after sunset and avoid mowing the lawn during the day as well. Also, carpooling and/or riding your bike, and also checking in on our elderly friends and neighbors and those with respiratory illnesses such as asthma.

The dry weather sticks around for Wednesday as well, so expect plenty of sunshine and summer-like heat. High temperatures head for the lower 90s for just about everyone. Much of the same like we are forecasting for Tuesday, with the moisture continuing to stick around the region, we will keep the option open for an isolated shower in the afternoon and evening with peak daytime heating.

If you will be spending time outside with friends and family for the 4th of July, be sure to have the SPF 30 or better. With all the sunshine, expect sunburn to set in within 20 minutes or less over the next few days. Also, be sure to remain hydrated as well with plenty of water.

Mid-week forecast

Another cold front rolls into the region by the time we get to Thursday. Expect the clouds to increase overnight Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, with chances for showers and thunderstorms by the afternoon and evening. High temperatures make it into the middle 80s.

Weekend forecast

Drier weather moves into the region for the end of the week. Expect a mixture of sunshine and clouds for Friday, giving way to plenty of sunshine for Saturday. High temperatures remain seasonable into the lower 80s for both days. The dry weather sticks around into Sunday, with a little more cloud cover working into the region, before rain showers return to the forecast by the time we get to early next week.
