Sunshine and cooler temperatures for Mother’s Day in Metro Detroit

While cooler temperatures stick around for Sunday, rain chances return to the forecast by the middle of next week

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy skies, a chance of rain showers. High: 61.


After most of the region saw some shower and thunderstorm activity Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening, we have cleared things out overnight last night into early Sunday morning, we will bring plenty of sunshine into the forecast with cooler temperatures, looking ahead throughout the end of the weekend.

Behind that cold front that moved through yesterday, we will keep a mixture of sunshine and clouds in the forecast throughout the day on Sunday. High temperatures are running about 10 to 15° cooler to end the weekend. Expect high to warm into the upper 50s to lower 60s by Sunday afternoon.

Drier weather sticks around for the start of next week, before another chance of rain moves into the region by the time we get to Tuesday. The cooler-than-average temperatures will continue into the start of next week as well. Expect high temperatures to remain in the 50s for Monday and Tuesday.

Temperature start to warm up by the middle of next week, and Drier weather moves back in by Wednesday behind another cold front moving into the region. Expect high temperatures into the lower 60s on Wednesday to warm into the upper 60s by the time we get to Thursday. Above-average temperatures move back into the region as we look ahead into the end of the week, expect high temperatures back into the lower 70s by the time we get to Friday.

Looking ahead to the start of next weekend, the long-range pattern is indicating that an Omega block is going to set up in the upper levels of the atmosphere by the end of next week and the start of next weekend. That is going to place southeastern Michigan in the favorable area for above-average temperatures, and potentially a Dryer weather pattern. High temperatures warming into the upper 70s to near 80°, with a chance of rain showers by the start of next weekend on Saturday.
